28 May 2008 - Demonstration of Feeling Against the Erosion of Local Services

The strength of feeling against the removal of services from the Rastrick community was clearly demonstrated as hundreds of people turned up to support the protest against the proposed relocation of Rastrick Health Centre and the refusal by Metro to re-instate bus services withdrawn earlier this year.

Protesters were joined by Chris McCafferty MP, who is due to meet with the PCT in June - and who heard for herself how the community did not want the new polyclinic in Brighouse to be built at the expense of the Rastrick Health Centre, but to be able to continue to access GP services within their own locality.

Prior to the demonstration, a meeting was held between representatives of the CCCAG, the newly formed Bridge End Rastrick Community Action Group, Rastrick Ward Councillor Paul Rogan and Councillor Geoffrey Wainwright, who is one of Calderdale Council's representatives on the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive. We have again requested the reinstatement of the withdrawn services and a meeting with Metro to discuss it.
